BENCHMARK GENETICS
Dr Ross Houston is an aquaculture geneticist who leads the genetics and R&D teams at Benchmark Genetics. He is responsible for their global commercial breeding programs and product design for both Atlantic salmon and whiteleg shrimp. He is particularly focussed on applications of the latest genomic and reproductive technologies to improve performance and disease resistance in aquaculture species. He has substantial experience of gene editing technologies and their applications to develop new or improved traits. Before joining Benchmark Genetics, he was Personal Chair of Aquaculture Genetics at the University of Edinburgh. He has authored over 120 scientific articles, and contributed to the translation of several genetics innovations to impact in the aquaculture industry.
